Sheffield Graduate Maker's Hub

Sheffield Graduate Maker's Hub offers like-minded individuals the opportunity to Live, Work and Play in creative, dynamic and
collaborative arrangements. The
7 Resilience Criteria, developed through the Collaborative Practice Research study, consider attributes required for commercial properties to be flexible, adaptable and versatile

When implemented in new or renovated buildings, these criteria aim to improve flexibility and personability in the short term, and also ensure the building remains resilient in the face of unforeseen future changes.

Robust

distinction and separation of building layers (i.e. structure, external skin, services) with the appropriate specification of materials dependant on lifespan of the different layers.

Flexible

contain flexible or easily modifiable, non-load bearing walls to separate space plan.

Inclusive

be clear of structure where possible, with optimal structural grid of 5.4m or above where necessary, to afford the opportunity for all commercial uses to optimise their layout.

Redundant

specify additional support (i.e. services, storage, plant) to accommodate increased capacities for alternative uses.

Resourceful

maximise estimated load capacity to allow potential to ‘extend’ the building vertically.

Reflective

bear a sensitive, contextual façade to allow the building to become part of the wider vernacular.

Integrated

possess glazing area ≥ 15% of floor area to provide display into and out of the building, and to provide adequate daylighting for different uses.
