I'm Jess. I'm a recent MArch graduate from the University of Nottingham.
I am a committed, forward-thinking creative seeking Part 2 experience and Part 3 training to fulfil my goal of becoming an Architect. I am passionate about beautifully detailed and thoughtful building design, underpinned by an evolving personal ethos centred around building continuity, creative reuse and resilient adaptability.

I am a compassionate and enthusiastic individual, and I strive to complete my every endeavour to my highest capability. I benefit from working to personal and prescribed deadlines, as, although I am a perfectionist at heart, it forces me to be quick and critical of the tasks I commit to. Opportunities I have been afforded at previous placements and at university, have contributed to a stronger sense of confidence, enabling me to work within teams of any size, lead and delegate, and present publicly. By taking a logical and rigorous approach to each project and pairing this with my continually advancing graphical and presentation skills, it has led me to resolve a number of successful schemes that I am proud of.
Creativity, ingenuity and an acute eye for detail, are strengths which have allowed me to develop a personal ethos centred around meaningful intervention, where places are rooted in the history, character and ambience of the existing context, for users past, present and future. My attitude towards re-use intrinsically links to concerns about climate change, material depletion and the economic challenges we are currently facing, and believe the responsibility we have as designers to minimise our impact on the world, is one we should all embrace.

Assistant Studio Tutor
2019 - Present
To strengthen relationships between undergraduate and postgraduate year groups, University of Nottingham offer Year 6 students the opportunity to tutor Year 1s part-time alongside studying in the final year. The competitive role required committment of 1 day per week (plus additional trips and reviews) to assist the head tutor in conducting 1-on-1 or group tutorials, workshops and crits.
Part 1 Architectural Assistant
2017 - 2017
I initially worked full-time for Leonard Design for 13 months during my first year out, where I then decided to take advantage of the University of Nottingham’s new Collaborative Practice course, allowing me to continue to work 20 hours a week through my first year of MArch. Across these two years I was provided with a wide range of experience across different work-stages, sectors and scales. I frequently worked on Planning Applications, feasibility studies, construction drawings, competitive bids and international retail concept packages. During my second year I was also entrusted to assist in training new Part 1s and work experience students, and even trained more senior colleagues how to use Revit.

THESIS PHILOSOPHY
To read more about my theoretical attitude towards architectural re-use, see my award-winning Thesis project; upon developing Principles of Continuity from the writings of Fred Scott, the Thesis proposes a series of interventions within an uninhabited urban block in Nottingham to provide an Arts Centre, new Performance Venue and integrated public realm strategy.
SKILLS
ACHIEVEMENTS
In collaboration with Leonard Design, whilst working part-time in practice, I produced a research study about resilient buildings and adaptive reuse.
Participated in Project Tshela at University of Nottingham - resulting in the development, funding and live-build of a nursery in South Africa.
